After the New Year, springtime is another time that motivates us to make a fresh start. When the weather finally starts to warm up and the breeze is blowing, we want to throw open the windows and let the rebirth all around us revitalize our homes and our spirits.
Spring Cleaning: Get Rid of the Excuses!
Some of the more important details to attend to are oil changes and checking for rust and leaks. It can be difficult to focus on such matters when you're business shoveling your vehicle out from snow drifts ever week. But with the arrival of spring, you're out of excuses.
With the weather warming up and more people spending more time at home due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the last few weeks have provided a prime opportunity to get ahead on spring cleaning for some.
The governor issued a stay-at-home order on April 2, mandating that people only leave their homes for essential activities at least until April 14. County officials said they've seen residents using spring cleaning as a way to stay busy, but also as an excuse to leave their houses.
"In terms of items that have been thrown away, we've had the biggest month we've had in a year. The courthouse is closed and we're taking it seriously as are a lot of other people, but those using spring cleaning as a way to get out of their houses and going to the solid waste sites are not."
Nolen and Bush understand that people are likely tired of being cooped up at home. They just want them to do spring cleaning in a responsible way by also following the guidelines that were set in place to slow the spread of the virus.
If time is limited for your spring cleaning process, we recommend skipping sentimental items until you can dedicate time to really go through them. After surveying 2,000 Americans on the stuff they store and why, we learned that sentimental connections to our belongings make the decluttering process much more difficult.
Once again we are experiencing wacky weather conditions. This time out it means warmer weather has arrived earlier than usual. A clear indication of this phenomenon can be found in the many flowers and trees that are blooming way ahead of schedule. If spring is not going to wait then perhaps you should take the clue from Mother Nature and begin your spring cleaning project. Spring cleaning is a very serious business for many folks. In some religions it essential to have the home cleaned down to the very last crumb during this time of year. To approach your spring cleaning project it might be helpful to get a little organized first.

As we emerge from our post Q4 hibernation and get back into the full swing of business, think about the areas of your business that you can potentially automate, or time-consuming tasks that you can delegate. A self-audit can be difficult to do but cleaning up those redundant and time-consuming tasks is a great way to get started on your spring clean. Be it, liquidating old inventory, utilizing a new tool for product research or even cleaning up your Seller Central account, all of the above requires organization and strategy.
I recommend looking at year-to-date, trending profitability for individual products. See how your profitability trends over a time period based on your marketing costs, sales channels, and more. You should have enough data by the spring to know which products are going to hurt you in the long run.

I love the spring weather! It is wonderful to open the windows and let the house air out from all the winter germs. As soon as the weather warms up, you will find me deep cleaning the house with springtime diffuser blends going and the windows open.
When I really want to deep clean the house, I start by stripping all the beds. Of course, I wash the sheets more than a few times a year, but for spring cleaning, I wash every blanket and all the comforters too.
Wiping all the cabinets down definitely makes my spring cleaning to-do list! I use my all-purpose spray and a cloth to do this. My kids love to help too! Give everyone a spray bottle and a cloth and go to town. This is the best part about using natural cleaners; the kids can help as well!
I should probably do this more often, but washing the windows and wiping down the windows sills fall into my spring cleaning list. Again, I use my all-purpose spray and a microfiber cloth. I am not kidding when I say all-purpose!
Every year about this time, most people spend some time spring cleaning the house to organize things and get rid of clutter. A lot of people find the task a bit overwhelming, but have a great sense of accomplishment in the end. Just as rewarding (but perhaps even more overwhelming) can be a spring cleaning, genealogy style! Spring is a great time to go through all of the family history information that you've accumulated over the past year.
Even if you have more piles than files, organizing your research is just a matter of getting started. Some people like to start with the most daunting task and work from there. Once you've filed away 100+ pages from the "Miscellaneous" folder, other spring cleaning tasks seem small. Other people like to start with the smaller tasks, (say, backing up their family file to disk) so that they feel a sense of accomplishment right from the beginning. Either way, try making a list of specific spring cleaning tasks that you can check off along the way.
The more organized you are, the more effective your research will be. If you're disorganized, you're more likely to feel overwhelmed and research will be less fun. Don't think of organizing as putting a halt to your research, think of it as a way to help you research faster and smarter. For example, as part of your spring cleaning you may consider entering your most commonly used sources into your family history software. Or, taking the time to scan in and organize your photos will give you the opportunity to attach faces to the names in your family file. And while you're at it, you might just discover some new information.
Lots of researchers bookmark genealogy sites as they come across them online fully intending to check them out later. As part of your spring cleaning, don't just delete them! Why not take an hour or two to go through those bookmarked sites and see what you can find? Then, you can organize the ones that you think you can use into folders by topic so that you can use them later.
Everybody knows that they should backup their family file on a regular basis but not everybody does. As part of your spring cleaning, take the time to copy your family file to a separate disk or CD-ROM and put it in a safe place so that you'll know where to find it. While you're at it, why not look into upgrading your family history software to the latest version? There might be some features that will help you stay organized all year long.
Organizing photographs is a job that takes some time but is always very interesting. As you organize and attach captions to photographs from decades past, you get to see how members of your family dressed and lived. This particular spring cleaning exercise is always more fun if you think of it more as an opportunity to time travel than just a clean-up task.
